There have been may people in AFR
circles wondering if Andrew Baker’s
Doozers have the right mix of players to
seriously challenge the Dingoes for the
title this year. Well, the game this
week might go along way to silence those
critics. The past month has seen the
Doozers become a shadow of the
powerhouse that we’ve all come to expect
from them, but with the recall of Gary
Ablett and McMahon and Richardson
finding some form again things look to
be on the improve.
For the Royboys, anything that could go
wrong did – Roughead and Koschitzke both
had games they’d like to forget. “We’ve
been playing well all season and now
this” said a disappointed Tom after the
game. “Only one or two of the boys
decided to turn up today … and that’s
never going to get you in to the prelim
final”. As Tom sits back and takes stock
of the season he should see more
positives than negatives … but something
tells me Koschitzke may have just played
he’s last game for the Royboys.
The first semi final between the Dingoes
and the Scorpions was, on paper, going
to a close game – that was assuming that
the Scorpions could play like we all
know that they can. The Dingoes were
simply amassing as they reached for a PB
(keeping with the Olympic feel) and came
oh so close. “We’ve been playing well,
but once again we’ve managed to smash
everyone and still have room for
improvement.”
Perhaps Dave knew that something was
going to go horribly wrong when Cloke
kicked 4.2 in the Scorpions reserves,
but the weekend horrors didn’t stop
there – Johnstone didn’t get a touch
after half time, and Welsh could only
manage .5 at forward. “We needed
something special this week … but it
just wasn’t our week”.
Speaking of special ... The Marvels managed to make the
Scorpions weekend even worse as they got
up in the AFR Cup. The 2008 season for
the Marvels has been anything but one to
remember - last week they were fighting
out the toilet bowl (in which they
lost). However, the AFR Cup has been a
happy hunting ground for them over the
past seasons … this is their second time
they’ve held the cup up. CONGRATS TO
THE 2008 AFR CUP WINNERS: MCAVANEAN
MARVELS.
